Finished my first semester of vet school! I forgot to mention, so I guess I'll put this quick status. Back to classes on Monday. :)
Fury by Moonafleet
Just a quick piece to submit to the vet school's art gala. It's coming up this weekend, so I'm kind of finishing this right up to the wire. I don't even know how I had time, to be honest. It's to be auctioned off, and the proceeds will go to help SCAVMA, the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

I'm hoping to get one more piece submitted, but we'll see. Three exams the week after the gala are not helping me be artistically productive. :S

Letter to an Unknown Soldier by Moonafleet
Letter to an Unknown Soldier
This is a submission for the project Letter to an Unknown Soldier, which my friend has been working on over in the U.K. :) She asked me to contribute something, and I finally got around to it (with about a week left until the deadline...).

For those who aren’t aware, Letters to an Unknown Soldier is a war memorial made by thousands of people, created on the hundredth anniversary of the declaration of World War I. Even though the project will be ending soon, it’s not too late to write something and send it in. You can find more info or read other letters here:

Done in ink.
Commission- Paint Stud by Moonafleet
Commission- Paint Stud
Whooooo this one took a while. It's a pretty large painting, definitely the largest I've done in acrylic. The commissioner is a friend of mine who I've done work for before, so I was glad to take on something like this for her. This is for her friend's paint horse stallion who is now getting up there in years, so she wanted something of when he was young and in his prime. I think I've captured how he looked back then, and she was very happy with the result!

Cian by Moonafleet
This is sort of a commission, or rather a long-overdue Mother's day present for my Mom. This is Cian, her handsome little Papillon. He's adorable in both personality and appearance, and about as mischievous as you can imagine. I love him dearly, so it was about time I did a painting of him.

Having my mom as a client was a little stressful (she was soooo picky e_e), but she seems to like the end result! I do too. The background is based on an old Victorian-era painting of a dog she found and liked, and I actually really like the result.

So I maybe graduated from college this past Saturday.

Oh, and got into two vet schools and wait-listed at a third.

And I am definitely attending the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in the fall.

I should have updated this journal back when I found out I was accepted, but it was a pretty crazy time so it slipped my mind. At this point I've also already found an apartment and started making firm plans about the next year, but I'm also still ridiculously excited. This is a dream come true on so many levels. It's going to be ridiculously difficult, but I think it'll be worth it in the end. But for now I'm just going to enjoy my summer before the madness hits.

All the same, it was definitely bittersweet to be leaving Berry College, the place I've called home for four years. I already miss it, with its beautiful rolling fields and many, many deer. I am especially missing the barn where I worked, and the nearly 80 horses that I took care of there. They were all my babies by the end. I know all of their names, their histories, their personalities. It's harder than I could have ever imagined to leave them, especially the ones that worked their ways into my heart the most. I know I'll go visit eventually, but in the meantime I just hope that others will give them the love they deserve.

Dammit, I got sappy on this journal entry. I guess I'm still not over all of this change. Hopefully I'll have some art coming up instead, maybe even something that's not a pet portrait, hah.

Hope everyone's doing well!

You're welcome! *watching*
Your art is so amazing!  Makes me wanna draw and ink and paint again.  Your gift is ... "Incredible" is such a weak, inadequate word.  But comes close.  :)
